What it does

34 features

Where the PDF lands

  • A new document with your page size, custom dimensions, bleed and facing pages
  • Existing pages from the one you pick, with any missing pages appended
  • New pages inserted before the selected page, or added after the last one
  • Selected frames only — their shape, position and size are kept

Choosing PDF pages

  • Ranges and single numbers, such as 1–5, 8, 12–16
  • The order you type is the order you get: 13, 15 places page 13 first
  • An empty field or All takes the whole PDF
  • Filter odd or even pages, and reverse the order
  • Duplicate and nonexistent page numbers are rejected

Page size and crop

  • Keep the PDF's own size — every page takes its format from the file, mixed sizes included
  • Or a saved InDesign page size, or dimensions of your own
  • Crop to TrimBox, CropBox, BleedBox, MediaBox or ArtBox
  • Crop to the content of all layers, or only the visible ones
  • Transparent PDF background on placement
  • Dimensions in mm, cm, inches, points or picas — your choice is remembered

Fitting and position

  • Fit proportionally, fill proportionally, stretch to the frame, actual size, or a custom scale set separately for width and height
  • Target the page, the area inside the margins, or the page with its bleed
  • Nine-point alignment with X/Y offsets
  • Measure from the page, the spine or the outside edge — the offset mirrors itself on left-hand pages
  • PDF rotation in degrees

The grid

  • Several PDF pages on one document page: rows, columns, X/Y gaps
  • Row order or column order — 2 × 2 puts four pages on a sheet
  • A layout preview in the panel before a single page is placed

Object styles and layers

  • An object style from the document, grouped styles included
  • The style can drive size and fitting; the panel restores it after placing and clears overrides on new frames
  • New frames on the current layer, an existing one, or a new named layer

Automatic style assignment

  • Rules by page orientation: portrait, landscape, square
  • By the odd or even page number in the original PDF
  • By PDF size in millimetres, within 0.5 mm; 210 × 297 and 297 × 210 are two different rules
  • Rules are ordered and the first match wins; everything else takes the main style

Presets and the run itself

  • Named presets of the whole setup — save, pick, delete, right at the bottom of the panel
  • A summary before the import, so you know what is about to happen
  • Stopping removes the whole unfinished import and gives selected frames their original content back
  • Adobe InDesign 18.5 and newer

Changelogv0.1.19

0.1.192026-10-22

  • Gumroad licensing in its own Licence window (panel menu → Licence, the Licence… button in Settings, or a click on the licence state in the header): one box for the key, with buttons for Get the free 14-day trial, Activate and Buy the full version, in Czech and English.
  • The trial is a free key from Gumroad and runs 14 days from the moment the key was taken. After a reinstall, or after the plugin's data has been deleted, the same key gives back only the days that are left.
  • Without a valid key, and once the trial is over, Import PDF opens the Licence window instead. Choosing a PDF, setting up the import, the grid preview and the presets all keep working.
  • The licence state shows in the panel header and in Settings. On a fresh installation the status line says where to start the trial.
  • A full licence works 30 days offline from the last successful check; the trial needs no internet at all once activated. A network failure never ends a running licence or trial. When InDesign denies the plugin the network, the window says so in its own words.
  • The Settings window takes the form fields underneath it out of the layout while it is open, so they cannot draw over it.
  • The manual has a new chapter on the trial and licensing.

0.1.182026-10-22

  • While PDF size is preserved, the manual width and height and their labels are clearly greyed out and disabled. The explanation says their values are not used for the import; turning size preservation off makes them available again.

0.1.172026-10-21

  • For a PDF whose pages are all the same size, the dimensions for the chosen crop now show next to the file name.
  • Settings offer mm, cm, inches, points or picas for PDF and preview dimensions. The choice is saved for next time; the dimension input fields stay in mm.

0.1.162026-10-20

  • The preview shows only when the grid is on, to check how several PDF pages sit on one sheet. A regular import has a tidier setup without it.
  • The preview selector is labelled Grid sheet, so it cannot be mistaken for a PDF page number.

0.1.152026-10-20

  • Presets live at the bottom of the panel: choose, name, save and delete. They stay within reach while the settings scroll.
  • Stopping always removes the whole current import and keeps the original contents of the selected frames. The option to keep the unfinished part is gone, for older presets too.

0.1.142026-10-12

  • The PDF page selection also accepts All and Všechny; the help explains the empty field and the use of the filter outright.
  • Fixed the preview of target pages beyond the end of an existing document, and of pages inserted later.

0.1.132026-10-12

  • Object styles assigned automatically by orientation, by dimensions and by the odd or even PDF page number.
  • Rules can be ordered by priority; every other page takes the default style. Rules are saved in presets and apply to the preview as well.
  • One user manual in HTML, Czech and English with a language switch, usable offline.

0.1.12

  • Fixed PDF fitting driven by an object style: after placing, the fitting and crop from the style are restored, so Fit proportionally, for one, shows the PDF the way the style says.
  • Newly created frames driven by a style have their object style overrides cleared at the end; there is no need to reach for Clear Overrides by hand. Selected existing frames still keep their original position and size.

0.1.11

  • Fixed placement driven by an object style: with Use style size and fitting on, the X/Y coordinates set by the style are no longer overwritten by the panel's alignment.
  • The fitting, scale and position controls are disabled and visibly greyed out while an object style is in charge. Clicking a disabled fitting control says in the status line which option has to be turned off.
  • A preset applies as soon as it is chosen in the menu; the separate button for loading it is gone.
